Powering this Mazda sports car is a SKYACTIV®-G 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine with VVT. This engine delivers up to 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. The combustion ration on this engine is 13:1 and it runs best with premium unleaded, 91 octane or greater fuel.

This SKYACTIV®-G engine can be paired with a manual or automatic transmission. The manual option is a SKYACTIV®-MT six-speed manual transmission with a short-throw shifter. The automatic option is a six-speed Sport automatic transmission with paddle shifters. When the engine is paired with the manual transmission, it has a fuel economy of 26 city mpg and 34 highway mpg. When the engine is paired with the automatic transmission, it has a fuel economy of 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg.
