Engine, Transmission and Drivetrain
The 2020 Mazda6 has two different engine options depending on which trim level you choose. The Sport and Touring trims come with a SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder with VVT and Cylinder Deactivation engine. This engine delivers up to 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. Paired with the engine is a SKYACTIV®-Drive six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift and Sport mode. This combination achieves a fuel economy of 26 miles per gallon in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. Both trims are equipped with front-wheel drive.
The Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve and Signature trims have the second engine option. The engine for these trims is a SKYACTIV®-G 2.5T Dynamic Pressure Turbo DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder with VVT. This engine achieves up to 227 horsepower with 87 octane regular unleaded fuel and 250 horsepower with 93 octane premium unleaded fuel. Both fuel options in the engine produce 310 lb-ft of torque. This engine is also paired with the SKYACTIV®-Drive six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift and Sport mode. This engine and transmission combination helps achieve 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. All three trims are equipped with front-wheel drive.
Mazda Technology for Improved Performance
Both engines have G-Vectoring Control Plus technology. This technology is designed to help create a smoother drive. G-Vectoring Control Plus works by adjusting power delivery and shifting vehicle weight when cornering. Although the system effects are subtle, the overall driving experience is improved. The cylinder deactivation in the SKYACTIV®-G 2.5L engine is used to balance fuel efficiency and performance. This is done by shutting off two of the four cylinders in specific driving conditions.
