traIf you’re looking to buy a Mazda you’ve probably noticed that some of them have a SKYACTIV® logo on them. You may have wondered what it is and how it affects the Mazda driving experience. So, what is Mazda SKYACTIV TECHONOLOGY? SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY was introduced in 2012 by Mazda as an option to improve the engine, transmission and chassis of their models. Keep reading to find out more about this Mazda technology.
How does it improve the Mazda experience?
Let’s start with the engine. Regular internal combustion engines only use 30 percent of their fuel energy. Mazda decided to improve by pushing the internal combustion to its limits to improve fuel efficiency. These engines compress the air-fuel mixture in the cylinders at a higher degree than other engines. Performance in SKYACTIV® models is improved by 15% compared to other similar engines. There are now three SKYACTIV® engine options: SKYACTIV®-X, SKYACTIV®-G and SKYACTIV®-D.
Now for the transmission. The SKYACTIV®-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission allows for smooth shifting, and quick and steady acceleration. The design help improve precision, responsiveness and efficiency. The SKYACTIV®-MT 6-speed manual transmission is modeled after the Mazda MX-5 Miata. This transmission is perfect for drivers who prefer the experience of a manual transmission.
Finally, we have the SKYACTIV® body. This body design helps to achiever nimbleness at low speeds and stability at high speeds. It’s made with an ultra-high tensile-strength steel to make it lighter while also making it stronger at the same time.
